Musings of a Maverick!: I May Get Sued Somewhere Down the Road in the Future!

Original post at

In New Mexico, a photographer declined to take pictures of a lesbian couple’s commitment ceremony. In Washington State, a florist would not provide flowers for a same-sex wedding. And in Colorado, a baker refused to make a cake for a party celebrating the wedding of two men. --- quote from an article on the issue of refusing service to sodomite and lesbian couples

The sodomite/lesbian juggernaut continues to roll, chalking up victory after victory. Oh, sometimes in a rare instance, there is an event of some kind that sort of goes against them in the quest to have universal acceptance of the sodomite/lesbian ways of life and relationships. But the majority of instances are a clear indication of a growing acceptance in all facets of our culture.

It is a very unpopular position to take when one speaks against same-sex practices and relationships. Obviously it is now a high-risk maneuver to refuse some kind of service to same-sex couples as revealed in the aforementioned quote from a report. Some lawsuits have already been initiated against businesses which have refused to do business with same-sex couples. For instance, a Christian business man refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because of his conviction that sodomy and lesbianism are morally wrong on basis of God’s revelation to us via the holy Scriptures. A lawsuit resulted from this action on the part of the business owner.

The debate on this is heating up to a white-hot inferno! But the sodomites and the lesbians have the edge due to sympathy they have successfully aroused, high profile celebrity and sports figures “coming out,” entertainment and TV industries giving support and presenting a positive “image” of same-sex relationships in programming, a growing number of churches capitulating and more church leaders giving support to the cause, a growing number of states making same-sex “marriage” legal, and federal government regulations that favor same-sex practices and relationships!

When the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania legalizes same-sex marriage (and it will – it is just a matter of time), there will be a challenge of the first magnitude for pastors. So the day likely will come when a same-sex couple may come to my door requesting that I do their marriage. There is absolutely no way that I will ever be involved in such an abomination. God has clearly drawn the boundaries on human sexuality, marriage, and human relationships. Same-sex relationships and intimacy are explicitly condemned as they go against God’s order and plan for His creation.

The result of my refusal to do such a marriage could result in a lawsuit – if that should happen, so be it. There was a time in our republic when religious freedom was highly emphasized – it was one of the basic foundation stones upon which this great nation was established. Those days have long since disappeared. We are now expected to lay Christian based convictions aside, if not discard them completely, and conform to the demands of the world around us. One of those demands is universal acceptance without any objection to the practices of sodomy and lesbianism. No mercy is shown to those who refuse to comply!

I wonder what the penalty will be in the lawsuit initiated against me for refusing to do a “marriage” of another kind?

Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! For in the same manner did their fathers to the false prophets. -- Luke 6:26 (ASV)

Musings of a Maverick!: United Methodist Bishops Suffer at Times from Lock Jaw!

Original post at

VATICAN CITY -- Pope Francis made his toughest remarks to date on abortion when he called the practice "horrific" on Monday. "It is horrific even to think that there are children, victims of abortion, who will never see the light of day," the pontiff said during his yearly address to diplomats accredited to the Vatican, a speech known as his "State of the World" address. [Source: Reuters on January 13, 2014].

It depends on the subject but usually on most issues the United Methodist bishops are quick to respond and to expound on just about anything – just about, that is, with one major exception.

Ask a bishop about gambling and he or she will travel on almost endlessly about how evil gambling is and that we should do what we can to end this activity that impacts so many lives and families of victims in a negative way. My conference, Western Pennsylvania, one year concentrated on the issue of gambling with oodles of information provided and strategies as to how to curtail if not eliminate the menace of gambling.

For quite some time within the United Methodist Church there was been a massive campaign to fight the deadly disease of malaria in Africa. My own bishop, Thomas Bickerton, was in on the ground floor when this effort got under way. He gained a lot of very favorable publicity in this campaign and traveled to a lot of places promoting the cause. He and others cited statistics often to buttress the case and reminded us repeatedly of millions of victims dying because of malaria. So we send funds and mosquito nets in great amounts in order to reduce the number of deaths annually that take place in Africa. Do not interpret this to mean that I am against such an effort – it is a great cause and Jean and I have supported it.

There are other areas perhaps that could be mentioned as to the United Methodist bishops and the Council of Bishops speaking up on issues of the day – well, that is, except for one about which many U. S. citizens do agree that it is very major in scope with far reaching consequences.

The one major “exception” which they will not address, either as individuals or as a group identified as the United Methodist Council of Bishops? It is the massive and persistent destruction of unborn children. This January 22nd will be the 41st anniversary of one of the most insane and diabolical decisions ever to come forth from the United States Supreme Court.

Harry Blackmun, a United Methodist church member, wrote the majority opinion which informs us that it is a “constitutional right” for a female to intentionally choose to destroy her unborn child. Wherever Harry is now, the clear evidence in God’s special revelation indicates that Harry most certainly sees things much differently in regard to unborn children. That is one thing about death – everyone passing through its gates will see things God’s way and the wreckage of flawed human reasoning and decision making is thrown by the way side – and if we chose to ignore it before life on earth ends for us, we cannot any longer do so after passing through the gates of death into eternity. The only thing still standing is God’s eternal and unchanging Truth – further, how He views the unborn!

There have been over 56.4 million unborn victims as we approach the 41st anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision which took place in January 1973.

However, in spite of the facts, graphic descriptions and illustrated photos of what happens when a doctor (term used very loosely) takes his tools and tears apart that child whom God is forming in the womb (see Jeremiah 1:4,5 & Psalm 139) – the result sometimes looks like the child was put through a hamburger grinder! And of course, its life has been terminated. That is the moment that United Methodist bishops come down with a severe case of lock jaw on this subject!

There are likely a myriad of excuses they have for not speaking out. Perhaps a very common response is, “It’s a very complex issue!” What is so complex about invading the womb, mutilating and murdering a child, and casually discarding the shredded remains as you would a tissue into which you just blew some runny stuff from your nose?

At the beginning was a quote from the Pope on this issue – this man is head of a church that involves millions upon millions of members. The Roman Catholic Church will be very high profile at the annual March for Life which will be held in Washington DC. Many, many Roman Catholic church leaders will be there participating. How many United Methodist bishops do you believe will be there? Yeah, we already know the answer to that one, do we not?

We who profess Christian faith at times make reference to the fact that God’s grace is sufficient, but do we really believe it? United Methodist bishops likely would also say so.

I read the witness of a young lady a few months back. She was very attractive in appearance and wearing very nice clothing. She had a smile on her face in her photo that was the kind that would make you say to yourself, “I would like to meet her personally and talk with her.” She went into detail about her background. Her mother was raped and became pregnant as a result of the rape. Rather than listen to voices that said she needed to terminate that pregnancy, she chose to get proper care and to continue with the pregnancy. A daughter was born at the proper time. The daughter was loved and cared for – got her education by attending pre-school, elementary, secondary, high school, college, AND graduate school. She is now a successful lawyer!

It is most likely that United Methodist bishops being made aware of the foregoing account that certainly speaks clearly about the sufficiency of the grace of God and the fact that God can take a very bad situation and turn it into something very good, that the first word out of their mouths would be, “BUT….”

We too often fail to realize the way to Hell is paved with cobblestones and on top of each cobblestone is engraved the word, “BUT!”

God is going to make a response to the massive shedding of innocent blood that has been going on for decades throughout our republic. When He does, it will be interesting to hear what statements will dribble forth from the mouths of the bishops of the United Methodist Church!

The Lord spoke his word to me, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart for my holy purpose. I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations.” [Jeremiah 1:4,5 (God’s Word)]

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,………… [Proverbs 6:16-17 (KJV)]

Musings of a Maverick!: Confronting the Gun Issue – A Modest Proposal!

Original post at

As of this writing, the mass media continue to exploit the shooting incident at a Washington DC Navy Yard in which 12 people were killed. Perhaps one disappointment on part of anti-gun people is the fact that the shooter used a shotgun rather than an AR-15 (considered an assault weapon) which really cranks up the adrenalin of the crowd that wants more and more gun control legislation with the eventual goal of removing all firearms from possession by law abiding citizens.

It was on Monday, September 16th, that Aaron Alexis went on a shooting rampage that resulted in 12 persons being killed at the Navy Yard in Washington DC.

As might be expected it was somewhat like an old fashioned revival as the anti-gun people got their bandwagon back in high gear AGAIN!

Below is the text of a fax being sent to all the members of Congress from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The message will also be sent to many senators from other states as well. Among the first will be the "champion" of "gun control" legislation, none other than Dianne Feinstein of California!

By the way, the little double barrel derringer pictured above is chambered for a .45 but will also shoot .410 gage shotgun shells -- it is in a concealed place in our home where I have quick access in light of the fact that in our county the number of home invasions has been steadily increasing due to the growing drug problem. In the event of a home invasion at our residence it could result in a sudden fatal case of lead poisoning!

Text of letter is as follows:

To Members of Congress:

The furor over gun control has erupted again in wake of the DC Navy Yard killings. Please note a recommendation in dealing with the gun issue.

Enact the following legislation: 1. Anyone who commits a crime with a firearm and is convicted on irrefutable evidence shall be sentenced to life in prison with no appeal and no parole. 2. Anyone who kills another person or persons by use of a firearm and is convicted on irrefutable evidence shall be sentenced to death by means of lethal injection with no appeal. These sentences shall be consistently carried out in all 50 states of our republic and any judge who tries to block such sentences shall be immediately removed from office.

By enacting the above legislation there will be no threat to the purchase and owning of firearms by law abiding citizens nor any attempt to confiscate the firearms which they have in their possession at the present time.

A parting question for serious thinking: why is there outrage when an incident such as the Navy Yard shootings takes place and no similar outrage that on the very same day hundreds of unborn children were intentionally mutilated and murdered with the killers being paid big bucks for doing the killings?

Musings of a Maverick!: Hypocrisy of the First Magnitude in DC — AGAIN!

Original post at

Below is the text of a fax which was sent earlier today to my reps in Washington DC, Senators Casey and Toomey and Representative Rothfus (12th District in PA).

Also pointed out is the repulsive hypocrisy of the present resident of the White House in Washington DC. He is making a big issue of the fact that 400 children were victims of the use of chemical weapons in Syria in addition to hundreds of adult victims. While he goes on a tirade about this and how we need to punish the leader of Syria for such criminal acts, there will be about 7 times that number of unborn children brutally mutilated and murdered in the United States today and each week day. Total number of victims, since the infamous Supreme Court ruling in 1973 declaring it is a woman's constitutional "right" to have her unborn child murdered, is now over 56 million!

September 4, 2013

To My Representative in Washington DC

Do not support military action against Syria at any time! Military action will only result in a quagmire with which we are totally unprepared to deal!

The president mentions about 400 children being victims of a chemical attack which took place in Syria. Please remind him that each day hundreds of unborn children are brutally mutilated and murdered here in the United States. What concern has he shown about these thousands of victims each week of the year? Total death toll is now at about 56 million since 1973!

Thank you for considering this request.

Musings of a Maverick!: Same-Gender Marriage Coming to Pennsylvania? Answer in a Letter!

Original post at

Attorney General for the state of Pennsylvania, Kathleen Kane, has stated that she will not oppose efforts to overturn the present ban on same-gender marriage in the Commonwealth. Part of her flawed reasoning is the issue of inequality and from her perspective same gender couples should have the same "rights" and privileges as do heterosexual couples who have been legally married in the state. A lawsuit has been filed which will challenge the existing law that bans same-gender marriage. --- Source: Johnstown Tribune-Democrat for Friday, July 12, 2013

Friday, July 12, 2013

Will same-gender marriage ever take place in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania? Yes, it is simply a matter of time for a number of reasons.

The sodomite/lesbian juggernaut continues to aggressively move forward winning victory after victory. Some states have already passed legislation legalizing same-gender marriage and others are under extreme pressure to do so. It’s like watching the childhood game of standing dominoes on end next to each other, pushing one over against a second one, and watching them fall one by one.

Not only are states capitulating but church groups are doing a similar shift. In at least one mainline denomination there are clergy who have vowed to violate the denomination’s position on same-gender sexual practices by doing same-gender marriages!

It is a fact that our culture has defied Almighty God’s position on the value of human life and moral responsibility. This has resulted in an overwhelming flood of immorality taking place. All ages are adopting a philosophy of “Sex is fun with anyone, or more than one at the same time, anywhere and at any time.”

The ruins of the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are a mute reminder that God will not be mocked. At this point in time there is no remorse that we have consistently violated His standards for a stable, serene, sensible, secure, and saintly society!

Is anyone willing to make a sign that reads, “Here lies another nation that thought it could establish its own moral standards and survive!”? A very qualified person to do this would be Kathleen Kane, Attorney General of Pennsylvania, who has said she will not oppose efforts to overturn the present ban on same-gender marriage in the Commonwealth. As is the case with a growing number, she will discover too late that God’s standard and boundaries for marriage between one male and one female have not changed since the time He put a mighty universe together by spoken command!

NOTE: Copies were sent to the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, the Altoona Mirror, the Punxsutawney Spirit, and the Indiana Gazette. The one sent to the Johnstown T-D was not quite as long and did not contain a reference to the PA AG, mainly because it made the letter over 250 words and the T-D is quite legalistic about that number :-(

Are they ashamed that they have committed abomination? Nay, they are not at all ashamed, neither know they what it is to blush. Therefore they shall fall among them that fall; at the time that I visit them they shall stumble, saith Jehovah. Thus saith Jehovah: Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the ancient paths, which is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein]. Also I have set watchmen over you:—Hearken ye to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken. --- Jeremiah 6:15-17 (Darby Translation)

Musings of a Maverick!: The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Is Opening a Potential Can of Worms!

Original post at

"…….BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly calls upon the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to affirm the faith, baptism and spiritual gifts of all Christians regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and that neither is grounds for exclusion from fellowship or service within the church, but we celebrate that all are part of God’s good creation; and……"--- statement in proposed Resolution GA 1327 to be considered by the General Assembly during July 2013 gathering in Orlando FL

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) General Assembly will be meeting in Orlando FL July 13 through July 17. At that time an extremely critical resolution is to be considered.

At first glance a read through the opening “whereas” statements would lead one to conclude that this is an excellent declaration.

But hold on a minute before reaching a conclusion on the merits of the opening statements. As you proceed, you come to the affirming part – it is here that things get interesting as the can opener peels off the lid on that can of worms and the slimy things seek to get out of the can!

Look very carefully at the following words: “….BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly calls upon the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to affirm the faith, baptism and spiritual gifts of all Christians regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and that neither is grounds for exclusion from fellowship or service within the church, but we celebrate that all are part of God’s good creation; and….”

It is obvious that the statement is saying no matter what your sexual orientation (and by implication, your sexual practices) may be, it is morally acceptable to us within the church! Sodomy and lesbianism are OK and we have no right to object to such practices on the part of those who are so “oriented.” Further, that those who practice same-sex intimacy should not be excluded from serving in various positions within the church, including that of being a pastor.

Watch out – here is where the worms start pouring out of the can.

Suppose a person is “sexually oriented” to molest small children – it brings him a real thrill each time he does it. The statement is clear – this guy must be affirmed since we do that “regardless of their sexual orientation!”

Suppose a family is “sexually oriented” wherein the parents are sexually intimate with their children and the siblings within the family are sexually intimate with each other. What to do? Simply affirm their faith “regardless of their sexual orientation!”

Suppose a young man in his 20’s is “sexually oriented” to rape young girls – that is his greatest pleasure in life, therefore who are we to object as to how his genes are programed? In order to be consistent, we must affirm his “faith” also if he chooses to be active within our fellowship and we must welcome him, must we not?

Let’s not forget Penelope – her “sexual orientation” involves her German Shepherd, Spike! She enjoys sexual escapades with him on a regular basis. She readily admits that she is a bit different but on basis of a church resolution, insists that she should be able to serve on the board of the church and on the Social Committee – particularly the subcommittee on Socializing with Animals!

Hang on – we’re not done yet – suppose there are those married couples who are “sexually oriented” to play musical beds with members of the opposite sex! You know, this thing of having an “open marriage.” Their dominating philosophy is “variety is the spice of life.” No choice here – we must affirm them without objection. Perhaps, if given the chance, they can serve as teachers and show the ladies Bible class how to really live in this world!

Yes, yes I already know - some of the activities previously mentioned are considered illegal -- criminal acts in which you can be charged, brought to trial and maybe do some prison time. Well, it's time to petition state legislatures to change the laws on such matters - a person can't help it if they are "sexually oriented" to do things that may be considered against the law. So, in addition to a resolution that urges our church people to full acceptance of all persons no matter what their "sexual orientation" may be, we may have to bring about changes in our justice system as well!

Let’s keep this thing in proper balance and cover all the bases when it comes to affirming the faith of all regardless of sexual orientation. How can we object? If we try to appeal to the Bible by saying that some aforementioned sexual activity is sinful, then we have to also include sodomy and lesbianism as being not merely sinful, but an abomination in the sight of God. After all, that’s how He identifies such activity in His Word.

Actually there is not one single statement in the entire revelation given to us by God in which the practices of sodomy and lesbianism or others as mentioned above have His approval and blessing.

Further, God established the institution of marriage with specific boundaries, involving one male and one female within the holy covenant of marriage. It is only within this covenant relationship that sexual intimacy is expressed and experienced with God’s approval – any kind of sexual activity outside the marriage covenant is totally condemned. In all of Scripture there is not one place that indicates God has altered His standard as to what marriage is and who the persons are whom He joins together to be one flesh!

Is it not strange that the subject of repentance from sin is never mentioned in the proposed resolution? Oooops! I forgot – the word repent is a word that is intentionally banished from the vocabulary of most churches these days.

The trends taking place in the denominations being what they are, we can expect the worms to begin crawling soon after the General Assembly bash and acceptance of GA 1327 in Orlando FL in July 2013!

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! --- Isaiah 5:20 (ASV)
