Even though I said I was going to work on seeing more movies, I guess I didn't...It was tough to come up with a list of the best movies this year again! Either that or I just don't see many good movies? I'll say that I'm going to work on this again, so we'll see how it works!
These are my favorite movies this year...Most weren't released this year, but it's when I saw them, so that's what we're going with! If there are any suggestions that you might have, I'll take them!
1.) The Help
I wanted to wait to see this until I finished the book, but I just couldn't wait any longer...(and I still haven't...)...But, this was so good & I'm glad that I watched it! I know that this will come as no surprise to most, but I spent about 45 minutes of the movie in tears. There was a part of me that still can't believe we treated human beings in such a terrible way & there's part of me that was not surprised...And there's part of me that wished it was only fiction. But it was an amazing movie...I laughed, I cried, and I thought.
2.) The Hunger Games
I read the Hunger Games series earlier in the year in anticipation for the movie...I have to say that as books into movies go, there was a lot that was left in...There were a couple things that I wish had stayed in the movie that were in the book (and let's be honest...the book is always better than the movie.), but all in all it wasn't that bad! I'm excited for the rest of the series!
Disney movies are almost never a bad idea...And I really liked Tangled! I cried (again, no one should be surprised at this.)...I liked that while she was kind of the typical "damsel in distress", she was also a fairly strong woman. Could this be a new era in Disney Princesses?
4.) 21 Jump Street
I never watched the TV show...I mean I knew it existed, but either I was too young just not interested or maybe both...So, I didn't have any nostalgia in wanting to see this, but I heard how incredibly funny it was & I was not disappointed! I laughed out loud so many times! The cameo by the original cast was a fun touch too. Thanks Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum for the entertainment.
5.) The Vow
Total chick flick. There is really no other explanation. I don't know if it caught me on a particular day or time or what, but I was totally sobbing by the end of the movie (even though I had a pretty good idea of how it ended). It was pretty typical as far as chick flicks go, but since it was based on a true story, I know that life is far messier than what they portrayed (even though they added drama). A good chick flick is good for everyone's soul.
6.) Les Miserables
I had high expectations for this movie...And it did not disappoint...In fact, it exceeded my expectations! Anne Hathaway is simply stunning...Hugh Jackman? Phenomenal! The only low point is Russel Crow...Maybe he'd be a good rock band singer, but not a musical theater guy...I wasn't in love with Amanda Seyfried either, but it didn't ruin anything. If I were pushed, I might actually say that this was the best movie of 2012....Heck, I'd say it even if I weren't pushed.
7.) Conan O'Brien Can't Stop
I am Team Coco. I may not watch his show as often as I should (or used to), but I love Conan O'Brien. Seeing an insight into the creative mind of him & his team... Their dedication to putting on a great show that keeps people entertained...This was a fun little journey to be on!
8.) The Muppets
I was nervous about this being too far from the typical Muppet genre, but it was not! It fit it totally! Loved Jason Segel! Amy Adams can play the syrupy sweet character like no one else can. And of course, all of the Muppets! A good, family friendly flick!
9.) Letters to Juliet
Also, another chick flick...I totally had everything called & I knew how it was all going to go...But it didn't change my entertainment level. I was wrapped into it...Cheese factor and all. (How's that for a ringing endorsement?)...Don't go into this thinking that you're going to see a life changing, thoughtful movie...But if you want to turn your brain off & just watch mindless entertainment, this is your movie!
10.) The Smurfs
I loved the smurfs as a kid...loved it! It was cute to see a live action movie/combined with CGI...Kind of like my imagination of what it might be like if I really had a smurf in my house! Also, not a deep, thoughtful movie...But another good, family friendly sort of movie!
