Faith UMC: Fat Tuesday – Ash Wednesday

Original post at http://www.faithumc-orange.org/?p=2079

I’ve heard that a well-done Fat Tuesday will surely give you something to repent of on Ash Wednesday. Well, this is not an encouragement to do anything you’d regret on Fat Tuesday, but it is an invitation to participate in our Ash Wednesday worship service at 6:30 PM, Wednesday, February 13.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a 40-day (not counting Sundays) period of preparation for Easter. Lent is a time for humbling ourselves (never easy for me); for breaking free from the things that have hold of us (by fasting from those things); for introspection; for devotion expressed through more active prayer and study.

Just as Mardi Gras is a season of preparation for Lent, and it ends in a party on Fat Tuesday, so Lent is a season of preparation for Easter. It also ends in a party—celebrating the resurrection of Jesus!

See you in church –tony
