I see the night sky, terrible and dark,
Inky vastness, sable tapestry, expansive void,
Shot through with points of light,
Faint and weak and flickering.
Menacing, it looms so far above,
A testimony to entropy,
A monument to loss.
A hungering maw swallowing all,
Joy and pain and pleasure and sorrow
Life and death and memory and love.
I see the night sky
And feel myself so insignificant and small,
Feel the weight of outer darkness hovering,
Leering as it threatens to consume all.
Will I forget? Will others forget me?
Will that void creep and nip and gnaw,
Whittling away all I am, every last memory?
Memory is all we are
