We all don’t have the same amount of talent. I will never be able to shoot hoops like Steph Curry. Or throw a football like DeShaun Watson. Or hit a golf ball like Bubba Watson. Or sing like Adele. We all don’t have the same amount of wealth. I will never be as wealthy as Bill Gates. Or Warren Buffet. We don’t all have the same amount of talent. We don’t all have the same amount of wealth. But we do all have the same amount of time. We each have twenty-four hours to spend today.
What are you doing with the time you have?
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16, NKJV).
If we are going to redeem our time, we need to know the difference between the important and the urgent. Urgency is part of life. A car needs repairing, an illness occurs, someone losses a job, a friend needs a place to stay, a teacher walks in and says, “Pop quiz.” Some things demand our attention. But life constantly lived in urgent mode is always life in reaction. Life in urgency mode is also a good excuse for not dealing with the important things in your life.
Important things can become urgent if we don’t treat them as important.
Who is lord of your time? Is Jesus the lord of your time? Who would you rather trust with your time – yourself who really knows nothing about tomorrow? Or the one who knows your future, knows the reason you were created, and who knows what tomorrow will bring?
